Baylor takes down ULM
The stage was set for the Warhawks to return to the friendly confines of Malone Stadium, and further instill themselves with their title of America's team. Adding to it was a local community that had rallied around the hometown team, shattering the attendance record with 31,175 fans. For the first time this season, ULM (1-2) ended a game in regulation, but with the Baylor Bears walking away with a 47-42 win, improving to 3-0.
The Warhawks jumped out to an early 14-0 lead after the ULM defense came up with a third down stop, setting up a Kolton Browning to Tavarese Maye score from 22 yards out, and the first of two first quarter interceptions, from DaCorris Ford and RobDonnovan Lewis. These setup first career score for running back Monterrell Washington.
Just inside the start of the second quarter, Baylor gave a glimpse of the speed and high powered offense as Nick Florence's pass to Tevin Reese was hauled in for a 43 yard score. Florence would hit Terrance Williams later in the quarter for a 48 yard score. Just before the half, the Bears tacked on a 21 yard field goal to take a 24-21 lead into the half.
ULM quickly answered to start the second half, as Jyruss Edwards broke loose for a 58 yard run, allowing the Warhawks to regain the lead, 28-24.
Baylor gained the lead once again, as they flexed their offensive muscles for 10 unanswered points, headed into the final frame.
Browning recaptured the lead for ULM in the fourth with a one yard run, however the lead was short lived, as Levi Norwood capped off a 14 play drive. Baylor added a late score to cap off the win following an Edwards fumble near midfield.
One glimpse of hope remained for the Warhawks though as Browning once again connected with Brent Leonard to pull within five points. With the Bears recovering the on-side kick, the clock expired.
