December 29, 2012ULM stepped back into Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon in search for their first win in conference play as they squared off against Florida Atlantic. ULM was hot shooting in the first half, but a series of scoring dry spells were the difference as FAU flew away with a 82 - 72 win.
FAU (7-5, 4-0) capitalized on 27 ULM (2-10, 0-3) turnovers, holding the Warhawks down to just 38.7% shooting from the floor, the second lowest percentage in Sun Belt action this season for ULM.
An early back and forth battle, and ULM lead, turned into a 15-0 run by the Owls to allow them to build a 15 point advantage. Ashleigh Simmons helped the Warhawks to erase the bulk of that lead though as she led ULM on a late 12-2 run to close out the first half, trailing just 38-34 at the intermission. Simmons ended the game with her second double-double of the season, a 13 point, 11 rebound performance.
During the opening half, ULM outshot FAU 48.1%-40.5%, with the key difference maker coming at the free throw line, where the Warhawks were 7-9.
The Warhawks remain off through the New Year when they get back into action on January 3 against South Alabama inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 5:15pm.
