Berry talks Tulane
Before the 2012 season, many had the Tulane game circled as the game that should be the first win for the Warhawks. Fast forward to the present, and third year Head Coach Todd Berry has his ULM team looking to close out the non-conference portion of ULM's schedule with their second win after the Saturday afternoon game against a struggling Tulane team.
"They are going through so of the same transitions we've faced. Just like in all transitions, they are trying to figure out what they do well and the players are trying to figure out the systems," Berry said. "Their systems have changed every weekend."
One of the biggest questions that face the Warhawks as they prepare for the winless Green Wave is who will run the Tulane offense. Starter Ryan Griffin has been sidelined with a shoulder injury, last week's true freshman starter Devin Powell is in a boot with an injury, and rumors are circling that former baseball standout, turned QB DJ Ponder could lineup under center.
All of these injuries and questions have left the Conference USA member in shambles; scoring just two touchdowns this season and a total offense total that is what some teams have tallied in a single game.
"It's obviously very difficult when you are not always sure who's going to be lining up in difference positions," Berry said. "It's almost like you are playing an opening game. They will be snapping the ball to someone, so we will just adjust on the run." Despite the entire over whelming stats and apparent mismatch this game has, in ULM's favor, Berry believes that his team will be focused solely on being 1-0 this week.
"If you looked at us against Arkansas on paper, they over whelmed us," he said. "If you looked at Auburn's budget; it's overwhelming to us. We are not going to get caught up in who is over whelming who, just about someone putting a football down and us going at it."
The Green Wave and Warhawks will go at it Saturday at 2:30. Full recap, pictures, and interviews will be available following the game on WarhawkReport.com.
