Warhawks fall to #19 Baylor

WACO, Texas - ULM (2-2) fell behind early on Saturday afternoon at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas, dropping a 70-7 decision to No. 19 Baylor (3-0) on the road.

For the Warhawks, Kolton Browning went 17-of-41 for 219 yards and found Harley Scioneaux for a touchdown in the second quarter. Browning also rushed 10 times for 43 yards, showing off his scrambling abilities.

Rashon Ceaser (78 yards) and Tavarese Maye (72 yards) each eclipsed 70 receiving yards with six and five catches, respectively. Jyruss Edwards had 16 carries for 40 yards on the ground.

Bryce Petty led the way for the Bears, passing for 351 yards and connecting on 18 of his 27 attempts. Petty also threw for four touchdowns before giving way to backup Seth Russell in the third quarter. Lache Seastrunk added 156 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries for Baylor.

Following a ULM turnover on downs on the opening drive, Baylor wasted little time in scoring the game's first points. The Bears used just three plays, all passes by Petty, to drive 81 yards for the touchdown. The first completion found reliable receiver Tevin Reese over the middle for 19 yards, but the second went the distance as Petty hit Antwan Goodley behind the Warhawks secondary for the 64-yard strike. Following the extra point by Aaron Jones, the Bears took an early 7-0 lead.

The Bears used another drive of less than a minute to put another touchdown on the board just two minutes later. Petty's arm moved Baylor down the field, going 3-of-3 for 75 yards, including another deep throw down the left side to Reese for 47 yards and the score.

Baylor used two interception returns for touchdowns to add to their lead later in the quarter. Joe Williams (41 yards) and Terrell Burt (63 yards) each picked off Browning and found the end zone, making it 28-0 in favor of the Bears with 2:34 remaining in the first quarter. A 2-yard run to the left edge of the end zone by Petty gave Baylor a 35-0 lead at the end of the quarter.

Petty found Goodley for another long touchdown pass at the beginning of the second quarter, but ULM finally got on the scoreboard at the 5:52 mark as Browning found Scioneaux at the back of the end zone on a nine-yard route, the tight end's third scoring grab in as many games. The 11-play, 80-yard drive helped the Warhawks cut into the lead, trimming it to 42-7.

Baylor posted three more touchdowns in the third quarter, including a 75-yard run by Seastrunk just 17 seconds into the half. Backup quarterback Russell found Levi Norwood on a 65-yard strike at the 7:51 mark to give the Bears a 70-7 advantage.

ULM will return to action next Saturday evening, Sept. 28, as the Warhawks host Tulane at Malone Stadium for a 6:00 p.m. showdown. The game will be carried on ESPN3.
