The ULM soccer team is now 6-0 on the season for the first time in program history, continuing to break records. With a last minute goal from Skylar Blaise, the Warhawks have defeated Little Rock for the first time since 2016, breaking a seven-game losing streak.
The first half was fairly uneventful, as the Warhawks tied with the Trojans in shots (3), shots on goal (2) and fouls (4). The scoreless first half was driven primarily by ULM, as they held possession for the majority of the half. Mara Grutkamp had a few shots, with Trojan goalkeeper Peyton Urban tallying two saves, Jennifer Handy saving two as well.
The second half started similar to the first, with both teams racking up shots and fouls, yet neither was able to get the ball in the back of the net. In the 71st minute, a lightning delay pushed the final 19 minutes back. After over an hour of delay, both teams were able to return and complete the match. It was in the 84th minute that Blaise knocked the ball in, scoring the game winner and the lone goal of the match. This was Blaise's first goal of the season and her fifth career goal.
The Warhawks ended up leading in shots, 6-4, and shots on target, 4-3. Each goalkeeper racked up three saves in the contest. Blaise and Grutkamp led in shots with three apiece.
With this win, the Warhawks are now 6-0 on the season, a feat never achieved before in ULM soccer history. Jennifer Handy now ranks sixth in program history, having captured her third shutout of the season.
The Warhawks return home this week, taking on the Sam Houston Bearcats on Thursday evening. ULM and Sam Houston will kick off at 6 p.m. at Brown Stadium.
