ULM wins home opener

Three touchdowns from quarterback Chandler Rogers helped to propel the ULM Warhawks (1-1) to a home win over Nicholls State (0-2) 35-7 on Saturday night.

Nicholls State took a 7-0 lead late in the opening period with a late 10 play, 86 yard drive capped off on a Kohen Granier pass to KJ Franklin for a seven yard score.

The Warhawks would answer on the next drive with four play, 74 yard drive that tied the game at seven on the two yard run by running back Andrew Henry. The drive was setup by a 68 yard reception from Rogers to Alred Luke.

For the second straight week, defensive back Tristan Driggers hauled in an interception, helping to setup the drive that put the Warhawks up for good in the game. Driggers interception came with 3:45 remaining in the first half, setting up the Malik Jackson TD from 8 yards out.

From that point, ULM never looked back and continued to showcase a good offensive performance in front of the 13,536 inside Malone Stadium.

Rogers, 20 of 25 passing for 253 on the night connected with tight end Zach Rasmussen for a four yard score with 20 seconds remaining in the opening half of action to account for the first passing and receiving connection score on the season for Rogers and Rasmussen.

The Warhawks found the endzone two more times in the second half, with Rogers connecting with Jevin Frett for an 18 yard TD in the third quarter. Rogers would make the final score early in the fourth quarter on a nine yard scamper to close out the game.

While the Warhawks celebrated their first win on the 2022 season, their next opponent will be a tall task as they travel to #2 Alabama on Saturday.
