day of practice in full pads and coaches expect further improvement as the
season opening game at Texas is a little more than four weeks away.
"We've just got into pads, so we are getting more contact,"
Head Coach Charlie Weatherbie said. "Tomorrow we get to go in full pads, which
will be great, followed by our first two-a-day on Wednesday."
The new 3-3-5 continued to gain excitement as they were
able to stuff the offense on several drives on the day. Leading the charge was
linebacker
Theo Smith and defensive back
Darius Prelow. Both players excelled in their respective positions making
several big plays.
ULM's offense exploded as long runs by running backs
Rodney Lovett and
Isaiah Newsome set the pace. Quarterback
Trey Revell connected on several deep passes to tight end
Alvin Jordan, as he continued to improve in his new starting role.
"I see one freshman that is really sticking out that we can
expect to see some things from this year is Isaiah Newsome," Weatherbie said.
"Defensively
Robert Nelson,
Chad Brown, and
Kevin White are some really good players that we are excited about."
