Warhawks turnover win to Buffaloes, 65-62

In what seems to be the never ending road trip, the Warhawks continued their season against Colorado. ULM was still looking for their first road win of the season, but turnovers cost them down the stretch as they fell 65-62.

With 6.6 second remaining, the Warhawks had a chance to put up a game tying shot, but junior Jarvis Hill kicked the ball out of bounds, ending ULM's threat. The turnover was the last in a 21-10 margin that the Warhawks held over the Buffaloes.

"We continue to make mental mistakes," Head Coach Orlando Early said. "We can't come on the road and expect to win against a Big 12 team with 21 turnovers."

Sophomore Rudy Turner continued to show his threat in the paint, as he extended his streak to five consecutive games with double-digit scoring, ending the night with 12 points.

Also continuing a streak was Sophomore Lawrence Gilbert, who has scored at least one three-point shot in every game of his ULM career. Gilbert ended the night as ULM's leading scorer with 19 points.

In the first half, the Warhawks fell behind early 4-0 to the Buffaloes. The offense then began to heat up their offensive performance, as they went off on a 9-4 run to take an early lead. After a back and forth half, ULM came out ahead 27-24, led by the nine points and eight rebounds by junior Malcolm Thomas. Thomas would finish the game with his first career double-double scoring 13 points and collecting 14 rebounds.

The Warhawks once again shot the ball well in the outing, as they ended the first half shooting 44% from the floor. They continued lighting up the scoreboard, as they shot 46.4% in the second half, for a 45.5% for the game.

Most impressive was the pounding of the boards by ULM. On the night they collected 45 rebounds, including 31 defensive, limiting Colorado to just four second chance points.

This allowed the Warhawk defense to contain the typically hot shooting of the Buffaloes, as they entered the contest ranked 12th nationally in shooting percentage. Their average had been 50% from the floor, but ended the night shooting 41.7% from the floor.

ULM will return to the hardwood on Monday, as they will host the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech for a 7pm tip-off. The Golden Eagles beat the Warhawks 108-70 earlier in the season.
