Yahoo! Sports Inside Slant on ULM

The Warhawks' road test at Florida Atlantic
figured to be a good indicator as to where they

arefour games into the season.
ULM (2-2,
1-0) had lost to Texas and Arizona State on the
road, it had crushed Texas Southern. FAU
proved to be more than an even match up, but ULM
made enough plays late to pull out a 27-25
victory in its first Sun Belt Conference game of
the season.
And it wasn't surprising to see
a close game. After all, in six meetings, the
outcome has been by an average of less than four
points.
ULM led 27-18 early in the fourth
quarter, but had to rely on its defense to hold
off a late FAU rally. Backup defensive
lineman
Trez Lockhart, who had just one tackle, came
up with a huge sack on FAU quarterback Rusty
Smith on the Owls' final series, and ULM held on
for the key league win.
The Warhawks can grab the early Sun Belt
league this week when they play Florida
International at home. It's the only scheduled
conference game.

experiences that this could happen."-ULM coach

STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
LOOKING GOOD:
- ULM did a good job mixing up the run
and thepass against FAU, and Revell continued
to make good decisions.
- ULM was 4-of-4 in the red zone against
FAU.
- PK
Radi Jabour has made 6-of-7 field-goal
attempts this season.
STILL NEEDS WORK:
ULM was just 5-of-13 on
third-down plays against FAU.
ULM's run defense is still somewhat
suspect. FAU running back Alfred Morris gained
122 yards and averaged 5.3 yards a carry against
the Warhawks.
ULM allowed 357 yards passing and had just
one sack against FAU.
ROSTER REPORT:
- DB
James Truxillo, who missed last season with
a knee injury, had a team-high nine tackles and
forced a fumble at FAU.
- ULM is running a
new 3-3-5 defense this season, which plays to
its strength. The Warhawks have a lot of talent
and depth in the secondary.
