Yahoo! Sports Inside Slant - ULM Warhawks

limited ULM
class=SpellE>'s offensive approach in the loss to
w:st="on">Arkansas State
when an early deficit forced the Warhawks to go to
their passing attack for most of the game.

But it's no
secret the Warkhawks are going to have to get more
out of their running game as the season progresses

style='mso-spacerun:yes'> "We've got to lean on our front a little bit
more," said offensive coordinator Steve Farmer, who also carries the title of
assistant head coach. "We got to get a little more production out of our o-line
and our tight ends to open up some running lanes for our running backs.

"That's the
biggest thing we talked about yesterday when we talked to the kids. The theme
of the week is to play more physical. You've got to do that in order to be a
successful football team."

ULM is
averaging a mediocre 120 rushing yards a game after two outings, but the main
problem is that the leading rusher is quarterback Kolton

Browning has
run for a net 108 yards, 50 more than running back Frank Goodin
has heading into the home opener against Southeastern
class=SpellE>Goodin is 816 yards away from becoming the career leading
rusher for the Warhawks.

Arial;color:black'> had only six carries against
w:st="on">Arkansas State
for 14 yards.

"We got away
from the run pretty quick," Farmer said. "But there was not a lot of success on
the runs we attempted. And then the score got lopsided in a hurry."

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'>QB Kolton
Browning was named the Louisiana Offensive Player of the Week after accounting
for 350 yards of total offense in the loss at
w:st="on">Arkansas State.
The redshirt freshman was 19 of 31 passing for 267 yards and two touchdowns and
also led the Warhawks in rushing with 83 yards on 18

font-family:Arial;color:black'> hopes to build on a 25-7 record in home openers
in Malone Stadium. The Warhawks have
class=GramE>won three of the last four such contests by an average score
of 40-7.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'>Junior LB Jason Edwards
will go for a third consecutive game in double digits in tackles when the
class=SpellE>Warhawks host Southeastern Louisiana.
He had 11 stops in the opener against Arkansas
and 13 against Arkansas
State. His 12.0 average
per game is tied for seventh in the country.

Southeastern Louisiana leads ULM 25-10 (last
meeting, 1985, 19-17 Southeastern Louisiana).

class=GramE>The Offense:
w:st="on">ULM ranks near the bottom of the Sun Belt in
total offense with only 120 yards rushing and 169.5 yards a game passing. QB
class=SpellE>Kolton Browning, however, bounced back from a 7 of 17
passing performance in the opener against Arkansas
to go 19 of 32 against Arkansas
State in his latest game.
RB Frank Goodin has gotten off to a slow start, but
WR Luther Ambrose has eight receptions for 109 yards.

color:black'>Scouting The Defense:
font-family:Arial;color:black'> The Warhawks
played the Razorbacks tough for three quarters before fading, but they were
stunned early by the Red Wolves the following week.
style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'> They are giving up 320
yards a game passing, most among Sun Belt teams, and are next to last in the
league in total defense, giving up 486.5 yards a game. LB Jason Edwards leads
the league in tackles with his average of 12 a game.

class=GramE>To Note:
Arial;color:black'> "I know everybody is tired of hearing it, but
it is the reality. I deal with realities. I don't deal with falsehoods, and
that's the reality. We've just got to grow them up."-Coach
Todd Berry, on the youth of his ULM

This Week
Arial;color:black'>'s Game
Arial;color:black'>: Southeastern Louisiana at ULM,
Sept. 25-After back-to-back trips to the state of
w:st="on">Arkansas and losses to
the Razorbacks and Red Wolves, the Warhawks are due
for a little respite. Competing at the FCS level, the Lions are 1-2, but their
losses are by a combined seven points. They lost their opener by six at Tulane
and are coming off a one-point loss at home to Lamar.

class=GramE>To The Game:
font-family:Arial;color:black'> Get the running game going. The
class=SpellE>Warhawks have rushed for 240 yards in two games and face a
defense that is holding opponents to 91 a game on the ground. The offense needs
to come through in the red zone, where it has only two scores (both touchdowns)
in four trips inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

class=GramE>To Watch:

class=SpellE>Kolton Browning-After struggling
at Arkansas, Browning came alive with 350
yards total offense in the loss to Arkansas
State. He leads the
class=SpellE>Warhawks in rushing with 108 yards on the season.

RB Frank
class=SpellE>Goodin-Goodin entered the season
looking like a sure bet to leave with the school's all-time rushing record. But
he has gotten off to a slow start with just 58 yards rushing through the first
two games. He needs to have a big game to get back on track.

DE Ken Dorsey-
class=GramE>After a quiet three years, the junior is showing up in many
different categories through the first two games. Among his nine tackles are
2.5 for losses, and he has forced and recovered a fumble and gotten credit for
a quarterback hurry in addition to his 1.5 sacks.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'>CB Nate Brown (leg) sat
out the game against Arkansas
w:st="on">State but is probable for Southeastern
Louisiana. He had a streak of 15 consecutive starts snapped when
he sat out the last game.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'>LT Justin Roberts should
also return this week. Roberts had started 23 straight games before the injury.
