Edwards has RB edge

Entering the 2010 season all eyes were on senior running back Frank Goodin's quest to rewrite the ULM career rushing marks. Goodin has been slowed by injuries though, leaving his ascend to the top slow, but has allowed for the quick rise of redshirt running back Jyruss Edwards.

Edwards is the Warhawk's third leading rusher with 135 yards, but has found the end zone three times this season, including twice in last week's come from behind win over WKU. Despite his early success though, he passes the credit on to the line blocking up front.

"Against Western, the offensive line came together and did what they had to do," Edwards said. "For the first time this season, they blocked; I've never seen holes like that, and me and Frank hit them."

In addition to his standout play at running back, which has landed him team captain honors for five of the Warhawk's six games, Edwards has moved into a key special team role returning kickoffs. With seven returns under his belt, he's averaging 30 yards per return, with a long of 35. Only Centarius Donald's 36 yard return at Auburn has been longer for ULM this season.

"I think we've found a kick off returner in Jyruss," Head Coach Todd Berry said. "I'm excited about what he's done back there."
