After an extensive search process, Michael Federico has been named to new head coach of ULM baseball.
Federico has been the pitching coach at traditional Conference USA power Southern Miss for the last nine seasons. He takes over a ULM program that finished with a 12-43 record in the 2017 campaign.
The hire of a pitching-minded coach should be a step in the right direction for ULM. The Warhawk pitching staff ended the year with a 6.77 ERA, and the only pitcher below a 4.00 ERA was closer Anthony Herrera, who has exhausted his eligibility at ULM.
Pitching isn't the only issue, however. The Warhawks gave up 64 unearned runs over the course of the season. Having 77 errors over a 55 game season isn't going to cut it at the D1 level.
Federico will need patience from the Warhawk faithful as he will need time to rebuild the program into a winner again. Rome wasn't built in a day, and the rebuilding process for ULM baseball will take more than a season.
