PTW – LFG – 134

This is the slogan adopted by the ULM football program – Prove Them Wrong, Let’s F**king Go – 134, a reference to the dead-last position the Warhawks were crowned for FBS programs entering the 2024 season.

First year Head Coach Bryant Vincent was asked after his team improved to 2-0 on the young season, Do you think your team is still 134?

“You might want to ask UAB if we’re number 134,” Vincent said with a huge smile.

The Warhawks are not 134 when it comes to the ground game. Through the first two weeks of the season, the ULM rushing attack ranks 35th among FBS teams, averaging 206.5 yards per contest, headlined by freshman running back Ahmad Hardy, who is in the top 55 in rushing.

“We really have eight running backs that can rush the ball,” Junior running back Taven Curry said after his game high 64 yards against his former team, UAB. “Coach Vincent says he really wishes he could have all eight in there, but week by week , we just have to keep working hard and make the most of our opportunities.”

Beyond Hardy and Curry, the Warhawks have also seen newcomer James Jones shine early on, recording 110 yards and finding the endzone in the season opener against Jackson State.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Warhawks are also among the top 45 in total defense, surrendering an average 4.54 yards per play and 272.5 per game. Headlining the defense is linebacker Billy Pullen with 2.5 sacks and in the top 20 for FBS.

Even the specialist play has been top notch, with the Warhawks sitting tied for the most blocked kicks, kicker Max Larson is a spotless 4-4 on field goal attempts, and freshman punter Makenzie Ryan ranks 47th with a 40.33 yard per punt average. Not bad for a punter with just nine attempts in his football career.

The Warhawks will take week three off on a bye, and face the daunting task in week four of playing the Texas Longhorns on the 40-Acres, but for now – LFG and it’s safe to say the Warhawks are not 134 anymore.
