Rivals High - Carroll v. Rayville

On a cool Friday night, the Carroll High (Monroe, La.) Bulldogs played host to the Rayville (La.) Hornets in a high stakes District 2-3A game. The winner would take a guaranteed share of the district title, and the loser would still likely advance to the playoffs, just a week away, but would face an uphill battle. At the end of the night though, the Bulldogs used another solid performance by senior athlete Tyree Hollins for a 28-14 victory.
"It's a big win for us, we beat Rayville which is always a good team, and it gives us a share of the district title," Carroll Head Coach Jackie Hamilton said after the win that moved his team to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in district play. "We need to eliminate some of the mistakes that we made tonight; we have just as good a shot as anyone on making it to New Orleans (for the state championship)."

Rayville would take little time jumping out to an early 7-0 lead as Jacob Barton connected with Tyrone Carter for a long 71 yard touchdown reception. The Hornet defense would hold Carroll's offense, but would make a costly mistake on their ensuing possession.
With just over eight minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Rayville Head Coach Bo Barton rolled the dice with a fake punt while on his own 31 yard line. The pass from Jonathan Wallace was thrown just short and resulted in a turn over on downs.
Junior Jamond Collins the connected with a long pass of his own as he hit Anwan James for a 29 yard score, to even the score.
Hollins would get his first of three touchdowns on the night as he ran in from seven yards out on a fourth down. Hollis would go on to end the night with a total of three scores and 140 yards on 13 carries.
Barton and Carter would connect for the final Rayville score with 5:42 remaining in the opening half, this one from 30 yards out.
Impressive play
- Sr. WR Tyree Hollins - Without a doubt Hollins was the difference in the game for the Bulldogs. Hollins controlled the Rayville defense and make great cuts back when running and ran crisps routes when called upon to line up at receiver.
