Rivals High - Neville at Ouachita

After three straight years of the Ouachita Parish High
(Monroe, La.) getting beaten by the smaller cross town rival Neville High

Tigers, the Lions were hungry for a home field victory to start off the 2010
season.
The Lion defense set the tone early as they held the
visitors on a three-and-out series on the opening possession. Junior
quarterback Quentin Wheeler then led his team down the field, ending with him
scampering in from 15 yards out to put Ouachita up 7-0. The Lions never looked
back from that point on, as they start the season off with a big 28-21 victory.
After the Ouachita defense held Neville to another quick
possession, Wheeler connected with sophomore receiver Tiajuan Thomas for a 76
yard scoring pass. The PAT put the Lions up 14-0, and looked to be in complete
control of the game.
Sophomore Neville quarterback
John Diarse would answer with a five play drive capped off with a touchdown
pass to fellow sophomore Salarrious Jones in the corner of the end zone.
Helping to jump start the drive was a 34 yard run by Diarse that positioned
Neville across mid-field for the first time on the night.
Wheeler once again led the Lions offense charging down the
field. After a 39 yard run by Ricky McCarthy setup Ouachita in the red zone.
The drive looked to stall, but Wheeler managed to convert a fourth and short,
setting up his second rushing score of the night, extending the Ouachita lead to
21-7.
Ouachita linebacker Xavier Davis hauled in his first
interception of the year on the next drive. The Lion offense then put up their
final score of the night, as Wheeler connected with receiver
Justin Ginyard.
Neville added a short score just before the half as
linebacker Ricky Wyatt entered the game as a fullback, diving in from one yard
out. Wyatt added another short score in the second half, but Neville was never
in a position to threaten the home standing Lions.
Impressive Play
- Junior
Quinton Wheeler - The junior quarterback was a major part in the Lions
picking up the win. His solid passing and running performance allowed Ouachita
to move the ball all over the Neville defense.
