Vincent names staff

The Warhawks added four new faces to the offensive coaching staff including Taylor Dupuis as quarterbacks coach, Jamaal Fobbs as wide receivers coach, Cameron Blankenship as offensive line coach and Brady Vincent as tight ends coach. Broderick Fobbs returns for his second season as the running backs coach at ULM.

On defense, Earnest Hill has been tabbed as the defensive coordinator/safeties coach while the Warhawks added cornerbacks coach Sammy Joseph, defensive line coach Davern Williams and inside linebackers coach Alec Osborne. Vic Koenning is back on the staff for his third season in Monroe and will serve as the outside linebackers coach.

Additionally, Mark Modleski has been named the ULM football chief of staff. Bryant Novick has been tabbed to lead ULM’s strength and conditioning program while Clay Templeton will serve as the assistant director of strength and conditioning / director of speed and athletic performance.

Taylor Dupuis joins the ULM coaching staff after spending the past five years on the UAB football coaching staff. Dupuis most recently served as the Blazers’ senior offensive analyst and also was a graduate assistant and offensive analyst in Birmingham. During the 2022 season, Dupuis helped UAB set new school offensive records for total yards (5,697), yards per game (438.2), rushing yards (3,063) and rushing yards per game (235.6). The Daphne, Alabama native began his coaching career as a student assistant at South Alabama from 2015-17.

No stranger to Louisiana, Jamaal Fobbs arrives in Monroe after spending two seasons as the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator at Miles College. Before his stint at Miles, Fobbs spent six seasons as the running backs coach for Tulane. At Tulane, Fobbs’ running backs earned top 10 single-season program records in each season he coached. The Green Wave held the No. 1 rushing attack in the American Athletic Conference in 2020, as Tulane averaged 217.1 yards per game on the ground and tallied 32 rushing touchdowns, the seventh-highest mark in the country. Tulane captured a pair of bowl victories during his tenure, including the 2020 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl and the 2018 AutoNation Cure Bowl. The Louisiana native holds over 20 years of college football coaching experience, which includes stops at Liberty, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Southeastern, North Carolina A&T, LSU and Texas College. Fobbs was a standout running back at Oklahoma State and was named All-Big 12 his senior year in 2000. He is the brother of Broderick and his father, Lee, was an assistant coach at ULM from 1989-90.

Cameron Blankenship comes to ULM after leading the New Mexico offensive line unit for the 2023 season. Under his watch, Blankenship’s offensive line helped generate 2,312 rushing yards, which was the 19th-highest mark in the country. Before his time in Albuquerque, Blankenship was on the UAB football staff for seven seasons, serving as the assistant strength coach from 2016-21 and the offensive line coach in 2022. During his time in Birmingham, Blankenship assisted in the development of the offensive line since 2016 that produced 11 All-Conference USA players. The Alexander City, Alabama native was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the Blazers from 2012-14.

Brady Vincent, son of ULM head football coach Bryant Vincent, will oversee the tight ends for the Warhawks. Vincent most recently served as the senior offensive analyst at New Mexico during the 2023 season and helped the Lobos achieve national top-20 rankings in red zone offense (14th) and rushing offense (19th). He was an offensive coordinator at Spanish Fort High School (Ala.) in 2022 and Orange Beach High School (Ala.) in 2021. Vincent spent three seasons at UAB both as a student assistant (2018-19) and a graduate assistant (2020). During his time at UAB, the Blazers won a pair of Conference USA Championships, a trio of division titles and won the first bowl game in school history. Vincent began his coaching journey as a student assistant at South Alabama, where he helped the Jaguars appear in their second bowl game in program history.

Earnest Hill was named the defensive coordinator/safeties coach for the Warhawks after spending two seasons as the stars/nickels coach at UAB. Before his time in Birmingham, Hill served as the running backs coach at South Alabama during the 2021 season. He was the head football coach at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile and guided the team to a 40-8 overall record and a state championship game appearance in his first season. Hill also led Greenville (Ala.) High School and accumulated 19 wins, including an 11-1 season in 2011. Additionally, Hill held the role of defensive coordinator at Handley (Ala.) High School (2001-05), Greenville High School (2006), Spanish Fort (Ala.) High School (2007-10) and Walker (Ala.) High School (2014). In his final season at Spanish Fort, his team captured the state 5A championship and he was named the Alabama Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year.

Sammy Joseph joins the ULM staff as the cornerbacks coach, most recently serving as a quality control coach at Memphis. While at Memphis, Joseph helped the Tigers win 23 games in three seasons, including bowl victories in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl during the 2022 season and the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in 2023. He also coached Sean Dykes, who broke Memphis’ career touchdown and receiving yards records for tight ends in school history. Prior to Memphis, Joseph coached running backs at Nicholls State, helping the Colonels win consecutive conference titles in 2018 & 2019. Joseph mentored All-American running back Julian Gums, rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2019. He joined the Colonels staff after coaching at St. Michael’s Academy in Austin, Texas, where he served as the wide receivers and defensive backs coach while also directing the strength and conditioning program. From Marrero, Louisiana, Joseph began his coaching career at LSU from 2014-15 as a strength and conditioning coaching intern. He was a standout defensive back at the University of Colorado (2003-04) and LSU (2005-06). As a player, he won three bowl games including the 2004 Capital One Bowl, 2005 Peach Bowl and 2006 Sugar Bowl. He also played professionally for the San Francisco 49ers (2007) and Toronto Argonauts (2009-11).

Davern Williams has been named the new defensive line coach and arrives at ULM after most recently serving as the defensive ends coach at Kennesaw State during the 2023 season. Williams was the former Director of Player Personnel at UAB in 2022. He worked as the defensive line coach at Troy, his alma mater, from 2019-21. Before Troy, Williams spent one season as the defensive line coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2018. From 2014-17, Williams was the defensive line coach at East Mississippi Community College and helped coach the Lions to a 42-3 record and a pair of NJCAA National Championships. EMCC was also featured in two seasons of the Last Chance U documentary series on Netflix. Williams also was an assistant coach at Murray State (2013) and Jacksonville State (2009-12). The Montgomery, Alabama native earned All-Southland Conference honors at Troy and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2003. He signed with the New York Giants in 2004 and made one start while appearing in three games.

Alec Osborne, a ULM football alum, rounds out the defensive coaching staff as the inside linebackers coach for the Warhawks. Osborne joins the ULM coaching staff after two seasons as a defensive quality control coach with Baylor, where he worked with the inside linebackers. He spent three seasons as a defensive graduate assistant coach at LSU from 2019-21. Prior to serving as a special teams quality control coach at Louisiana-Lafayette, Osborne spent one season as the defensive ends coach at McNeese in 2018. He launched his coaching career at Northwestern State in 2017. Osborne played for the Warhawks from 2012-16 and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in finance and master’s degree in sport management while at ULM. He and his wife, Kacey, have one son, Niles.

Mark Modleski begins the role as ULM football’s chief of staff after serving as the running backs coach and the recruiting coordinator at Long Island University for two seasons. Modleski was on the UAB coaching staff in 2021 as a quality control coach and associate director of player personnel. He was a quality control coach at Arkansas from 2018-19 and a graduate assistant at Memphis in 2017. Modleski began his coaching career as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He graduated from SUNY Oswego in 2013 with a bachelor of arts degree in English.

Bryant Novick has been named the director of strength and conditioning after serving as the associate strength and conditioning coach at UAB for the 2023 season. He spent 2022 as the director of sports performance for Long Island University athletics. Novick served as an intern on the Blazers’ strength staff in 2019 before being promoted to an assistant strength coach in 2020 and 2021. He played offensive line for UAB from 2013-14, 17-18 and appeared in 25 games. In his final season, Novick helped the Blazers win their first Conference USA Championship and set a school record with 11 victories.

Clay Templeton has been selected as the director of speed and athletic performance for the ULM football team and will also serve as the assistant director of strength and conditioning. Templeton most recently was the director of athletic performance at Orange Beach High School in Alabama and helped the team capture a trio of state championships in four years. He began his career as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at UAB in 2019. Templeton played defensive back for UAB from 2015-18 and was a team captain. He helped the Blazers capture a conference championship in his final season.
