season, as they took on the Alcorn State Braves. Cale Wine's shutout
pitching performance was matched in the game as Senior Shelby Aulds set a new
career high in strike outs as he picked up the win in the 12 - 0 Warhawk
victory.
TOP PERFORMER:
- Shelby Aulds - Six innings of work, allowing just four hits, walking
two, and setting a new career high with 10 strikeouts.
UPDATED RECORD: 2-0 Overall Sun Belt 0-0
1ST INNING
- ULM starter Aulds kicked off his first start of the season with a
strike out; setting the tone for his new career setting night. The
Warhawks did not manage to collect a hit, but managed a base runner thanks to
the first of several innings by the Alcorn State Braves.
2ND INNING
- Aulds continued to mow down Braves batters, collecting another pair
of strikeouts to add to his total. Alcorn State managed to cut the bottom
half of the inning short, as just three batters came to the plate and
defensively they turned a double-play to end the Warhawk threat.
3RD INNING
- Aulds strikes out the side, after surrendering one
walk. In the home half, the Warhawks pounded out three hits including
Kodie Tidwell's first career hit, a right field home run to help put a six spot.
Also in the inning, Fuller collected his second stolen base of the season.
4TH INNING
- Another inning and the Aulds strikeout total continued to climb as
he collects his eighth. The bottom half sees the Warhawks add another run
by Herrington, as he walks, and advances on Judd Edwards' third hit by pitch of
the season. Herrington is then able to cross the plate as Braves'
catcher's throw to third was sent into left field. A Justin Stawychny
hit-by-pitch and Brandon Alexander walk set-up a bases loaded, two out scenario
for Chris Dudley. His deep fly ball though, was just short and caught for
out number three.
5TH INNING
- The Braves put together a trio of hits, but were unable to put any
across as Aulds' strikeout total reached double-digits, before assisting on the
final put out of the inning. Dalton Todd walked and collected his first
stolen base of the season, to highlight the home half of the inning.
Bullpen action for a possible move came from Devin Malone and Jared Dye.
6TH INNING
- An uneventful sixth saw the braves collect another hit, however the
Warhawks were sat down in order.
7TH INNING
- Devin Malone enters the game and after a rough start that saw him surrender
a walk to the first Braves hitter he faced, he settled in for a pair of
strikeouts. The bottom half saw the Warhawks plate Tidwell on Chet
Simoneaux's debut walk and wild pitch. Ryan Bergeron maintained his
perfect batting average, driving in a pair of runs. The runs chased Brave
pitcher Kevin Gonzalez for Dominique Griffith.
8TH INNING
- Malone remained in the game, working through a hit batter to start
the inning out before settling in and allowing the ULM defense to end the inning
in order. Blake Wolfe entered the game, connecting on a hit to shortstop
and reaching on an error and then being caught attempting to stretch the error
into extra bases. Dudley banged out his first base hit of the game.
Tidwell would advance him on a fielder's choice and a pair of walks loaded up
the bases for Josh Faciane. Faciane walked to gain an RBI, Edwards gained
one the same way in his at bat. Bergeron stuck out to end the Warhawks
scoring.
9TH INNING
- Malone picked up the save with his third inning of work.
Alcorn picked up a hit, and Malone surrendered a walk before closing the game
out for the Warhawks' second straight win of the season.
