MONROE, La. - ULM quarterback Kolton Browning and safety Darius Prelow have been recognized for the work in the Warhawks 28-14 victory over Troy this past Saturday. Browning was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week by Rivals.com and Prelow was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the league office.
Browning completed 20-of-30 pass attempts for 226 yards and a touchdown while also running for two scores. His official rushing total was 26 yards on 19 carries, but that included 11 negative yards due to sacks. The redshirt freshman from Mabank, Texas, has now thrown for over 200 yards in seven straight games - the most since Robert Cobb in 1993 - and has 1,741 passing yards on the season which is the most through eight games since Raymond Philyaw had 1,762 in 1996.
Prelow, a native of Shreveport, La., led a ULM defense that held the Trojans to its lowest point total in a Sun Belt game since 2006. The junior finished the game second on the team with six tackles (Troy only ran 69 plays) and also intercepted the first pass of his career. ULM's victory snapped Troy's 13-game Sun Belt Conference win streak.
The Warhawk defense earned an ESPN Helmet Sticker for its performance against the high-powered Trojan offense. ULM held Troy to just 285 yards of total offense and 167 yards through the air - 184.3 yards and 137.2 yards lower than its season average, respectively. The Warhawks also kept one of the nation's top offensive threats in Jerrel Jernigan in check. Jernigan entered the game ranked 15th in the NCAA in receptions (6.8), 26th in receiving yards (83.5) and fourth in all-purpose yards (178.3) - the Warhawks held him to just three catches for 27 yards and 92 all-purpose yards.
ULM, which has won four of its last six games, travels to Miami, Fla., on Saturday for its fifth straight Sun Belt Conference game as it takes on FIU. Kickoff between the Warhawks (4-4, 3-2 Sun Belt) and Golden Panthers (2-5, 2-1) is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CST). The game will be televised live on the Sun Belt Network which is broadcast on CSS and Cox Sports in Louisiana.
