The Warhawks were facing long odds against
Arizona State, and the game's opening play

didn't help their cause. ASU ran back the
opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, and
rode that momentum to a 38-14 victory.
"Overall, the kicking game was a big difference
in the game," ULM coach
Charlie Weatherbie said. "We drove the
football down there offensively but threw an
interception, which killed the opportunity.
"We gave the defense a short field the whole
first half. Arizona State is a good football
team, and I believe we are a better team than we
showed tonight."
Field position and the kicking game were
dominated by ASU, and the Warhawks simply
couldn't establish anything consistently on
offense. The Warhawks continue to be
somewhat of an unknown, having beaten lowly
Texas Southern and lost to two more talented
teams in Arizona State and Texas.
This week's conference opener at Florida
Atlantic will be a good test and gauge as to
where ULM is right now.
