It had been over two years since the ULM Warhawks picked up a road win and three years since defeating the Troy Trojans. Both of those streaks were snapped on Saturday night as the Warhawks edged out the Trojans 13-9 on a fourth quarter Ahmad Hardy rushing touchdown.
The ULM (3-1, 1-0) freshman running back posted his second 100 yard rushing performance of the season, finishing the night with 106 yards on 27 carries, including the 1-yard plunge into the endzone with 9:08 remaining.
The kicking game and field position dominated the first three quarters of the Sun Belt Conference opener. With Max Larson connecting on a pair of field goals from 42 and 20 yards out to keep the Warhawks within striking distance.
Aidan Armenta came into the game in the second quarter to relieve General Booty following his one completion on four attempts and an interception performance to start the game. Armenta connected on four passes for 108 yards including long passes Tyler Griffin in the third quarter and Jake Godfrey in the fourth. Both explosive plays led to points on the board for the Warhawks.
Troy (1-3, 0-1) was held to just 71 yards of passing in the game and saw three quarterbacks used after starter Goose Crowder was injured in the opening quarter and Tucker Kilcrease left the game in the fourth quarter.
ULM now returned to Malone Stadium for the first of two straight Sun Belt Conference contests, starting next weekend against JMU (4-0) on ESPNU. Kickoff is set for 6pm.
